On August 4, 2026, the Chinese Embassy in the United States hosted a cultural event at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo to celebrate the fifth birthday of giant panda Bao Li. On the day of the event, thousands of Americans gathered at the Panda House to send birthday wishes to Bao Li.

The cultural experience booths organized by the Chinese Embassy attracted large crowds of visitors, who lined up for popular activities such as panda face painting and photo opportunities with panda mascots. Guests also enthusiastically participated in traditional Chinese arts, including calligraphy and watercolor painting, creating a lively and warm atmosphere throughout the event.

A highlight of the event was the online “Send Your Blessings to Pandas” message section, which drew numerous panda fans who left hundreds of heartfelt messages expressing their affection and best wishes for Bao Li. In addition, a fun and interactive “Discover China with Panda” trivia quiz helped attendees learn more about China’s economic development and achievements in social governance in a relaxed and engaging way. Guests also collected brochures introducing tourism and study opportunities in China, as well as panda-themed souvenirs designed by the Embassy.

Visitors were impressed by the diversity and creativity of the event, which further deepened their love for giant pandas and enhanced their understanding of and fondness for China.
