On November 20th, 2025, the Chinese Embassy in the United States hosted China-U.S. Intellectual Property Scholars Dialogue. Qiu Wenxing, Charge d’Affaires ad interim of the Embassy, delivered remarks. The dialogue was co-organized by Renmin University of China Law School, Civil, Commercial and Economic Law School of China University of Political Science and Law, and Pennsylvania State University Dickinson Law. Representatives of China and the U.S. academia, law and business communities participated in the event. Shen Xuesong, Minister Counselor for education affairs of the Chinese Embassy, attended.

CDAQiu said, China attaches high importance to intellectual property development and protection, and will enlarge achievements by implementing the 15th Five-Year Plan in the coming five years. Intellectual property should be a field of cooperation between China and the U.S., not a field of conflict. There should not be unfounded smears against China for ‘stealing’ intellectual property rights or ‘forcing technology transfer’, nor should so-called national security factors be introduced into the intellectual property issue. We welcome American professionals and scholars to visit China and exchange with Chinese counterparts, so as to promote mutual beneficial cooperation in the field of intellectual property and contribute to advancing the stable, healthy and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.
Chinese and American scholars had in-depth discussions on topics including pharmaceutical intellectual property protection, legal protection of big data and trade secrets, standard essential patent issues, copyright law for AI-generated works and pathways for China-U.S. intellectual property cooperation.
