The Chinese Embassy in the U.S. held a Chinese fashion and arts event

On September 5, 2025, the “Embroidered Elegance: The Artistic Rhythm of Jiangsu” event was held at the Chinese Embassy in the United States. Ambassador Xie Feng and his wife Madam Wang Dan attended the event together with American friendsfrom various sectors including culture and arts, business, media, think tanks and academia, and foreign diplomats and their spouses. The guests enjoyed displays of intangible cultural heritagesincludingthe Su embroidery, gold foil, velvet flowers and Chinese paintings, experienced the elegance of Nanjing-style qipao, and immersed themselves in the charm of cultural exchanges.



In her remarks, Madam Wang Dan introduced techniques in Chinese intangible cultural heritages such as embroidery and gold foil, which showcase remarkable craftsmanship. She illustrated theevolution of qipao, a shining example of harmony in diversity. She also presented from different perspectives the inheritance and development of Chinese intangible cultural heritages, highlighting the innovative spirit of the time-honored Chinese culture. Noting that the experience event offers only a taste of Chinese culture,Madam Wang encouragedthe guests to visit China and discover much more about its culture, fashion and art. She pointed out that each civilization has its own understanding of beauty. While they vary from each other, none is superior over others. She called for joint efforts to promote cultural exchanges, encourage mutual learning among civilizations, and nurture people-to-people friendship.

The event was co-hosted by the Chinese Embassy in the U.S. and the Associates of the American Foreign Service Worldwide.  More than 260 people attended the event, including Minister Jing Quan, Minister Counselor Chen Chunmei and Minister Counselor Shen Xuesong. A Jiangsu cultural and art delegation and members of the Jiangsu Federation of Young Entrepreneurs visited the U.S. for the event to presenthands-on intangible cultural heritage workshops and performances including Jiangnan sizhu. The Xuejuan Dance Ensemble in Washington D.C. also performedChinese folk dance.
