On September 9, Permanent Observer to the Organization of American States (OAS) Ambassador Xie Feng attended the Special Meeting of the Inter-American Council for Integral Development with the Permanent Observers and delivered remarks.

Ambassador Xie noted that as President Xi Jinping pointed out, development holds the master key to solving all problems. The Chinese modernization is not for China alone; it is about common prosperity for all countries. China has launched the Global Development Initiative, a Chinese blueprint for reinvigorating global development, which has gained broad support and participation from the international community, including the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) region. As a key pillar of the five major projects for building a China-LAC community with a shared future, the development project continues to fuel regional growth. China-LAC cooperation is delivering tangible benefits to people in the region.

Ambassador Xie emphasized that China and LAC need to stand together in solidarity, and pursue common development and shared prosperity based on mutual respect, equality, and mutual benefit. We need to uphold a win-win approach, deepen high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and expand collaboration in emerging fields. We need to adhere to the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution, and shared benefits, place development at the heart of the multilateral agenda, and realize genuine sustainable development of the region. We need to ensure benefits for the people, deliver more real benefits, and further improve people’s will-being in the region. China stands ready to continue its cooperation with the OAS and its member states, and will always be a staunch supporter of and contributor to the development of the LAC region.

The Special Meeting was chaired by Ambassador Sir Ronald Sanders, Chair of the CIDI, and attended by OAS Secretary General Albert Ramdin, as well as envoys from member states and representatives of observer states.
