On July 28, 2026, the Chinese Embassy in the United States held a reception to celebrate the 99th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA), and commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Victory of the Long March. Ambassador Xie Feng and his wife Wang Dan, Minster Tang Zhiwen, Minister Yin Haihong, Defense Attaché Major General Liu Zhan, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of War Alvaro Smith, as well as other U.S. officials and guests from various sectors, foreign diplomats and military attachés to the U.S., and representatives of overseas Chinese communities, attended the event.
In his remarks, Ambassador Xie pointed out that the most important thing now is to take concrete actions to faithfully implement the common understandings reached between the two Presidents during the Beijing Summit, translate the new vision of a constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stability into real actions, and keep expanding the list for cooperation while shortening the list of problems. China will resolutely safeguard its sovereignty, security, and development interests. Taiwan, democracy and human rights, path and system, and development rights are China’s four red lines. “Taiwan independence” and cross-Strait peace are as irreconcilable as fire and water. The U.S. side should adhere to the one-China principle and the three Sino-U.S. Joint Communiqués, and exercise extra caution in handling the Taiwan question.
Ambassador Xie said that under the firm leadership of the Party, the PLA has traveled an extraordinary path, and now proudly stands as a powerful and disciplined force for peace. The world today is far from tranquil. China firmly pursues peace, development, cooperation, and win-win results, and stays committed to being a force for peace, stability, and progress.

Major General Liu said in his remarks that inheriting and carrying forward the glorious traditions of the Red Army and the Long March Spirit, the PLA will spare no effort for the final stretch to reach the goals set for its centenary in 2027 on schedule. The Chinese military stands ready to work with the U.S. side to inject greater substance into and provide solid support for a constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stability.
U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of War Alvaro Smith also delivered remarks. The guests expressed warm congratulations on the great achievements in China’s national defense and military development. A photo exhibition themed “Chinese People’s Liberation Army: Safeguarding World Peace” was also held on site.
