On June 23, 2026, Chinese Ambassador and Permanent Observer to the Organization of American States (OAS) Xie Feng led a Chinese government delegation to attend the 56th Regular Session of the OAS General Assembly in Panama City, the capital of Panama, and delivered remarks at the Dialogue with Permanent Observers.
Ambassador Xie said that changes in the world not seen in a century are accelerating, and the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) region is facing grave challenges. No matter how the situation may change, China is always a good friend and good partner of LAC countries. President Xi Jinping has called for launching five programs on solidarity, development, civilization, peace, and people-to-people connectivity. China−LAC cooperation has made positive progress across the board. China and the LAC region need to together advocate solidarity and coordination, upholding sovereign equality and supporting each other on issues bearing on one another’s core interests, and jointly safeguarding international fairness and justice with a commitment to multilateralism. The two sides need to together pursue development and rejuvenation, empowering each other’s economic growth. The two sides need to together promote mutual learning among civilizations, advocating coexistence of different civilizations in an inclusive way. The two sides need to together maintain peace and stability, pursuing harmonious coexistence based on recognizing and respecting differences. The two sides also need to together build more bridges between people, forging a China-LAC community with a shared future.
Ambassador Xie emphasized that since becoming a permanent observer to the OAS in 2004, China has taken an active part in its activities, conducted constructive dialogue, and carried out cooperation with the OAS in diverse forms, benefiting countries and people in the region. China is ready to work with the OAS to tide over the difficulties together, and supports the OAS in continuing to play a positive role in promoting regional peace, stability, development and prosperity.
