On February 3, 2026, Chinese Ambassador to the United States Xie Feng delivered video remarks at the “Prelude to the Spring Festival · The World Watches the CMG Gala Together” U.S. event commemorating the 55th anniversary of China-U.S. ping-pong diplomacy.

Ambassador Xie noted that the Spring Festival marks the return of spring and the renewal of life. Likewise, China-U.S. ping-pong diplomacy 55 years ago was also ice-breaking, opening the door to friendly exchanges between the two peoples and the development of bilateral relations. At present, China-U.S. relations face both new opportunities and multiple challenges. He stressed the importance of following the guidance of heads-of-state diplomacy to keep bilateral relations on the right track, properly managing differences and removing obstacles, actively expanding mutually beneficial cooperation to provide stronger momentum for developing bilateral relations, and strengthening the bonds between the two peoples by enhancing friendly interactions. These efforts, he said, will inject more energy into China-U.S. relations in the year ahead and beyond, lay the groundwork for a harvest, and help the two countries find a right way to get along in the new era.

Looking ahead to the Year of the Horse, Ambassador Xie expressed the hope that, under the strategic guidance of the two Presidents, China and the United States will uphold the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation, act with sustained drive and renewed vigor, and turn the grand vision for bilateral relations into a win-win reality, so as to bring more tangible benefits to our peoples and instill more stability and positive energy into the world.

The event was co-hosted by China Media Group, the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and the Chinese Table Tennis Association in Tacoma, Washington. More than 100 participants from various sectors attended, including the Mayor of Tacoma, teachers and students of Lincoln High School, and members of the 1971 U.S. table tennis delegation to China.
