On May 30, 2025, Chinese Ambassador to the United States Xie Feng and his wife Wang Dan held a Dragon Boat Festival celebration together with compatriots from both sides of the Taiwan Strait living in the Washington area. Minister Qiu Wenxing attended the event.

Ambassador Xie Feng said President Xi Jinping pointed out that the Chinese on both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to one and the same family. No one can ever sever the bond of kinship between us, and no one can ever stop China’s reunification, a trend of the times. Compatriots on both sides of the Strait share the same bloodline, culture and history, as well as the same responsibility for the nation and the same aspiration for the future. We should jointly preserve our cultural roots, work together for the greater national interests, and strive for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Ambassador Xie said that certain anti-China forces within the United States are endorsing “Taiwan independence” separatists to take reckless actions, threatening peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. The U.S. arbitrary imposition of tariffs has severely undermined the well-being of people worldwide. Recently, the U.S. State Department announced it would revoke visas of Chinese students. The Chinese Embassy in the U.S. had immediately lodged stern representations with the U.S. side, and will continue to resolutely safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese students and nationals in the U.S.

Ambassador Xie said that dragon boat races embody a spirit of courageously aiming for the top, and also reflect the resilience and unity of the Chinese nation. With over 1.4 billion Chinese people rowing together to steer the great ship, no storm is too great to overcome, and no shore is too distant to reach. He encouraged compatriots in the U.S. to draw on the “dragon boat spirit” and set sail on the grand journey toward national reunification and rejuvenation.

The compatriots expressed their honor in celebrating the Dragon Boat Festival with Ambassador Xie and his wife, through which they felt the warmth of their (ancestral) homeland. They said they take pride in China’s historic achievements and are willing to continue contributing to the cause of China’s reunification and China-U.S. friendship.
