Ambassador Xie Feng Met with U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defense Ely Ratner

On July 12, 2023, Chinese Ambassador to the United States Xie Feng met with U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defense Ely Ratner upon invitation.

Ambassador Xie said that a sound and stable China-U.S. relationship is in the common interest of the two countries. The three principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation outlined by President Xi Jinping represent the fundamental and right way for China and the United States to get along in the new era. Ambassador Xie stated China’s position on the relations between the two countries and the two militaries, urging the U.S. side to remove obstacles and manage differences with concrete actions, prudently handle important and sensitive issues such as the Taiwan question in accordance with the principles enshrined in the three China-U.S. joint communiques, and work with China in the same direction to gradually bring the state-to-state and mil-to-mil relations back to the right track.

The two sides also exchanged views on issues of mutual interest.
