On September 23, 2013, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and South African Foreign Minister Maite Nkoana Mashabane co-chaired the Third Round of Political Consultations between Chinese and African Foreign Ministers on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly at the UN Headquarters in New York. Over forty foreign ministers or minister representatives from the African Union and African countries attended the consultations.
Wang Yi said in his speech that the overall strength of the developing countries is increasing. The 1.3 billion Chinese people are working hard to realize the Chinese dream of achieving the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. More than one billion people in Africa are working hard to realize the African dream of achieving self-reliance, development and revitalization through unity. China and Africa have always been a community of common destiny. China is and will always be a reliable friend and sincere partner for Africa. China will work with African friends to make greater contributions to the global dream of achieving lasting peace and common prosperity.
Wang Yi pointed out that China-Africa cooperation is distinctively characterized by its mutually-beneficial, win-win, pragmatic and efficient nature. Significant progress has been made in the implementation of the outcome in the five key areas: investment and financing, assistance to Africa, the African integration, the people-to-people exchanges between China and Africa, and the African peace and security. For the next step, China and Africa need to deepen strategic mutual trust, stay committed to common development, strengthen multilateral cooperation and promote the building of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation for the greater benefits of both the Chinese and African people.

The foreign ministers had an in-depth exchange of views around the topic of China-Africa cooperation and unanimously adopted the "Joint Communique of the Third Round of Political Consultations between Chinese and Africa Foreign Ministers".
On the same day, Wang Yi met respectively with the GCC 'Troika' foreign ministers and foreign ministers of Egypt, Namibia, South Sudan, Australia, and the UK.
