Wang Yi: Sustainable Development Should Focus on Eliminating Poverty and Promoting Development
2013/09/23 22:00

On September 22, 2013, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in New York and he elaborated on China's propositions on the Millennium Development Goals and the Post-2015 Development Agenda of the United Nations.

Wang Yi said that the theme of this year's General Assembly is about development, which is particularly important to the world, especially to developing countries. China hopes that all parties will engage in in-depth discussions around such topics as accelerating the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals and developing the roadmap for the Post-2015 Development Agenda and gather the consensus of the international community. China advocates that sustainable development should focus on eradicating poverty and promoting development, follow the principle of "common but differentiated responsibilities", and put emphasis on balancing economic, social and environmental pillars. China is actively adjusting the economic structure and accelerating the transformation of the development pattern. China will unswervingly take the path of low-carbon, green, and environment-friendly development and circular economy. China's sustainable development will not only benefit the 1.3 billion Chinese people, but also comply with the global trend and direction of development.
