Xi Jinping Meets with ROK Prime Minister Han Duck-soo

On the afternoon of September 23, 2023, President Xi Jinping met at the West Lake State Guesthouse in Hangzhou with Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Han Duck-soo who is in China to attend the opening ceremony of the 19th Asian Games.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China and the ROK are close neighbors that will always live next to each other and cooperative partners that cannot be separated. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992, relations between China and the ROK have developed rapidly, bringing important benefits to the people of the two countries. The steady and solid advancement of China-ROK relations serves the common interests of the two countries and the two peoples, and is also conducive to promoting regional peace and development. China is ready to work with the ROK to continuously advance the China-ROK strategic cooperative partnership in keeping with the times.

Xi Jinping emphasized that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the ROK, friendly cooperation has always been the mainstream of China-ROK relations. China follows the policy of good neighborliness and friendship towards the ROK, and values the positive will of the ROK to be committed to China-ROK cooperation. Xi Jinping expressed his hope that the ROK will work with China in the same direction, take policies and actions that can reflect the importance it attaches to the development of China-ROK relations, respect each other, and safeguard the general direction of friendly cooperation. China is advancing Chinese modernization on all fronts with high-quality development, and the modernization of the overall population of more than 1.4 billion people will surely further unleash tremendous market opportunities. Noting that China and the ROK enjoy close economic ties, and deeply integrated industrial and supply chains, Xi Jinping said that the two countries can deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and continue to help each other succeed. China and the ROK both advocate safeguarding multilateralism and the global free trade system, and can strengthen communication and coordination to work for a more just and equitable international order.

Han Duck-soo said that as China's close neighbor, the ROK sincerely wishes the Hangzhou Asian Games a complete success. Noting the productive exchanges between President Yoon Suk-yeol and President Xi Jinping at the G20 Bali Summit last year, Han Duck-soo said that given the numerous challenges facing the international community, maintaining high-level exchanges between the ROK and China is conducive to promoting the development of bilateral relations and meeting these challenges through cooperation. The ROK is ready to work with China to promote a sound and mature ROK-China relationship. Han Duck-soo expressed his hope that the two sides will strengthen economic and trade cooperation, people-to-people and cultural exchanges, uphold multilateralism and free trade, and jointly promote global economic recovery and growth.

Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, Wang Yi, and Shen Yiqin, among others, were present at the meeting.
