On May 19, 2023, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Qin Gang attended in Xi’an the opening ceremony of the Consulate General of Kazakhstan in Xi’an together with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Murat Nurtleu.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said in his speech that the day before yesterday, he had substantive talks with President Xi Jinping and yielded fruitful results, ushering Kazakhstan-China relations in another golden three decades. Recent years have witnessed increasingly close cooperation and exchanges between Shaanxi Province and Xi’an City and Kazakhstan. The opening of the Consulate General of Kazakhstan in Xi’an is of great significance. It will vigorously promote bilateral cooperation in economy and trade, investment, transportation, logistics, culture and other fields and make new contributions to the development of Kazakhstan-China relations.

Qin Gang said that in recent years, under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China-Kazakhstan relations have achieved leapfrog development and reached a high level of permanent comprehensive strategic partnership. This time, President Tokayev came to Xi’an to attend the first China-Central Asia Summit and paid a successful state visit to China. President Xi Jinping had in-depth talks with President Tokayev and they reached new and important common understandings. President Xi Jinping also agreed with the heads of state of Central Asian countries to build an even closer China-Central Asia community with a shared future. The opening of the Consulate General of Kazakhstan in Xi’an is a new milestone in the history of the development of China-Kazakhstan relations. It will build a new bridge for friendly exchanges and cooperation between China and Kazakhstan, especially between China’s western provinces and Kazakhstan, and provide a new window for enhancing mutual understanding between China and Central Asian countries.

The Consulate General of Kazakhstan in Xi’an is the third consulate general established by Kazakhstan in China and also the first consular office established by a Central Asian country in the western region of China.
