On October 31, 2022, President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message to Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on his election as President of the Federative Republic of Brazil.

Xi Jinping noted, China and Brazil, both as major developing countries and important emerging markets, share broad common interests and responsibilities. For the past 48 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, through concerted efforts of successive governments of the two countries and all sectors of their societies, China-Brazil relations have made great progress, with cooperation in various fields yielding fruitful results. China and Brazil enjoy long-term friendship. Deepening  mutually beneficial cooperation serves the fundamental interests of the two countries and the two peoples, and is conducive to the peace and stability in the region and the world, as well as the common development and prosperity. I attach great importance to the development of China-Brazil relations. I am ready to work with President-elect Lula, from a strategic height and long-term perspective, to jointly plan for and elevate China-Brazil comprehensive strategic partnership to a new height to the benefit of the two countries and peoples.
