BEIJING, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo said here Wednesday that current Sino-U.S. relations have make remarkable progress and their cooperation has been fruitful, and the two countries have strengthened consultation in international and regional issues. Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), made the remarks while meeting with a delegation from the Committee of 100 of the United States. Wu expressed gratitude for the work the committee has done to improve the understanding and friendship between China and the United States. China would like to make joint efforts with the U.S. side to grasp their common interests and take into consideration the concern of both sides, promote dialogue, trust and cooperation so as to push forward their constructive and cooperative relations, Wu said. This year marks the 35th anniversary of Shanghai Communique, Wu said, adding history has demonstrated that the long-term, stable and healthy Sino-U.S. relations conforms to the fundamental interests of the two countries and peoples. He hoped the Committee of 100 would continue to promote mutual understanding and cooperation between China and the United States. John Fugh, chairman of the Committee of 100, vowed to enhance Sino-U.S. friendship. Liu Yandong, vice chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and Sheng Huaren, vice chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, also met with the U.S. guests on Wednesday. The Committee of 100 was founded in 1990 by a group of well-known Chinese Americans. It has been engaged in promoting China-U.S. relations and cooperation.
