On April 8, the 2025 Washington International Education Conference (WIEC) Chinese Education Reception was held at the Chinese Embassy in the United States. WIEC President William Fish, educators from nearly 30 US universities and representatives from the Embassies of Malaysia and Algeria in the U.S. attended the event. Charge d'affaires Jing Quan made a welcome speech and Minister Counselor for education affairs Shen Xuesong hosted the event.
Jing pointed out that people-to-people exchanges between China and the U.S. are the cornerstone of China-U.S. friendship. Last year, more than 260,000 Chinese students studied in the U.S., and 16,000 U.S. youths visited China under the “50,000 in five years” initiative for exchanges and study, bringing new vitality to China-U.S. relations. China remains steadfast in opening-up at a higher level and committed to maintaining sound, stable and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations. American people from all walks of life are welcome to visit China and see the country firsthand to gain a fuller and more objective understanding of China.
President Fish expressed his readiness to continue to support China-U.S. educational exchanges. The guests spoke positively about the education cooperation between the two countries and had in-depth discussion about the new modes and pathways of higher education exchanges between China and the United States.
