On December 12, Minister Qiu Wenxing attended the 2024 annual conference of the Institute for China-America Studies and gave remarks during the session. The event was moderated by Gordon Houlden, Director Emeritus of the China Institute at the University of Alberta, Canada. More than 150 representatives from the U.S. strategic community attended the event.
Qiu pointed out that China’s policy towards the United States is consistent and clear. China’s goal of a stable, sound and sustainable China-U.S. relationship remains unchanged. Its commitment to mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation as principles for handling China-U.S. relations remains unchanged. Its position of resolutely safeguarding China’s sovereignty, security and development interests remains unchanged. And its desire to carry forward the traditional friendship between the Chinese and American peoples remains unchanged. At present, acting on the plan drawn by the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the CPC, China is further deepening reform comprehensively, advancing Chinese modernization, so as to create a better life for the 1.4 billion plus Chinese people. The fundamentals sustaining China’s long-term growth have not changed and will not change. The Chinese economy grew 4.8% in the first three quarters in 2024, among the best of major economies. The Chinese economy now has higher quality as well as bigger quantity. The Chinese government always welcomes the American companies to invest, grow and prosper in China. To the U.S., China is not a challenge but an opportunity, not a rival but a partner, not the problem but the answer.
Minister Qiu also took up questions from the floor.
