(May 4th, 2024)

Distinguished guests,

Ladies and gentlemen,

Good morning.

I am more than happy to join you here in this blooming season. A warm welcome to you all! And a big thank-you to every strong supporter of Fujian-US cooperation!

On China’s southeast coast, there is an amazing land of beauties and blessings. This is Fujian, China’s only province with its name symbolizing happiness and fortune. This is Fujian, a refreshing Fujian that makes its people proud, and a green Fujian that tops the whole nation with a forest coverage rate of 65%.

More than 100 years ago, our American friends took refuge from summer heat in Kuliang, a resort in Fuzhou. Last June, in congratulating the Bond with Kuliang Forum, President Xi Jinping hoped that our peoples’ friendship can stay as strong as the thousand-year-old cedar trees in Kuliang.

Fujian’s economy enjoys huge potential. It has the combined strengths of special economic zone, free trade pilot zone, and core area of the Maritime Silk Road. Encouraged to be the first mover, Fujian is ready for high quality development.

Last year, our GDP increased by 4.5% to 771 billion dollars, ranking 8th nationwide. And our per capita GDP neared 20,000 dollars, the 4th highest in China.

We in Fujian are moving faster to develop new qualitative productive forces, and new growth drivers. Our four pillar industries, including electronics, information, advanced equipment manufacturing, modern textiles and garments, exceed 150 billion dollars in annual output each. Our digital economy and marine economy have topped the whole nation for many year running. All of these have made Fujian a fertile land for growth and prosperity.

This is Fujian, a top tourist destination in the making, and a treasure trove of cultural heritage acclaimed far and wide. 5 world cultural heritage sites, and 9 items on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List, just to name a few.

This is Fujian, where you may boat down rivers in picturesque Mount Wuyi, explore the mysterious water-front Danxia landform in Taining, marvel at the intriguing landscape in Ningde Global Geopark, or stroll around Xiamen, a garden city on the sea, at complete ease.

This is Fujian, where you may visit magnificent Tulou, and see how residents live in harmony with nature. You may trace the footprint of the great philosopher Zhuxi, or wander through Fuzhou’s crisscrossed Three Lanes and Seven Alleys. You can also try the exquisite paper-cut.

This is Fujian, where traveling has never been so easy, as our province is well-connected in transport. By land, it takes only 6 hours to tour around Fujian by high-speed trains. China-Europe and China-Central Asia freight train services reach over 30 cities across 12 countries in Eurasia. By sea, 131 shipping routes connect to 117 ports in 43 countries and regions. By air, Fujian’s 6 airports operate nearly 400 routes, linking major cities across the world.

This is Fujian, a key cradle of Chinese tea culture. At the end of 2022, traditional tea processing techniques and associated social practices in China, including Fujian’s six tea processing techniques, were inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The Tanyang Congou Black Tea, which was also listed, has won a golden prize at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition held in the US in 1915. Fujian offers everything from rock tea, black tea, and white tea to Tieguanyin and jasmine tea, all of which are perfect choices for sharing with friends.

This is Fujian, a gourmet’s heaven. As one of China’s eight major culinary traditions, Fujian food is celebrated for ingredients from seas and mountains. In Fujian, you can savor Shaxian Snacks, as well as other specialties including lychee pork, Fotiaoqiang, and thin noodle soup.

Ladies and gentlemen,

As the saying goes in both China and the US, “Seeing is believing.” We warmly invite you to Fujian for more natural beauties and opportunities.

Thank you.
