On February 22, Chargé d'Affaires Xu Xueyuan was invited to the School of International Service of the American University to have a discussion with the students under the theme "China-US Relationship: Engagement or Competition".

Xu elaborated on the imperative for all countries to jointly build a community with a shared future for mankind. She pointed out that cooperation between China and the US is good for both countries and beyond, while confrontation harms both as well as the rest of the world. Xu answered a wide range of questions from the students on China-US economic and trade cooperation, climate change, the Internet, Taiwan, Xinjiang, the South China Sea, and the Middle East.

In conclusion, Xu called upon the school and the American students to have more communication with their Chinese peers in a spirit of mutual respect, open-mindedness, and independent and innovative thinking. This, as she underlined, will contribute to sound and stable development of China-US relations.

The students raised questions actively and expressed their readiness to invite more Chinese diplomats to the classroom.
