On October 26, the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations hosted its 2022 Gala Dinner in New York. President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Joe Biden sent congratulatory letters to the event. Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of the Chinese Embassy Xu Xueyuan and Chair of the National Committee Jacob Lew read out the letters respectively.
President Xi congratulated Evan Greenberg, a Vice Chair of the National Committee and Chairman of Chubb Limited and Chubb Group, on receiving the recognition at the gala, and expressed appreciation to the National Committee and its members for their longstanding dedication to the growth of China-U.S. relations and the exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in various areas. President Xi pointed out that the world today is neither tranquil nor stable. China and the United States are two major countries. Closer communication and cooperation between the two countries will help bring greater stability and certainty to the world, and promote world peace and development. China stands ready to work with the United States to find the right way to get along with each other in the new era on the basis of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation. This will benefit not only our two countries but also the whole world. President Xi expressed the hope that the National Committee and all those who care for and support China-U.S. relations will continue to play an active role to help bring bilateral relations back to the track of sound and steady development.
President Biden said, I send my greetings to everyone gathered for the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations 2022 Gala Dinner. Since 1966, the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations has convened key officials, experts, and members of civil society to shed light on a wide range of issues and areas of cooperation between the United States and China. Both of our nations have an important role in addressing the global challenges of the 21st century, including tackling the climate crisis and strengthening health security across the globe. These challenges know no boundaries and will require the broader international community to come together and for each of us to do our part in building a safe, peaceful, and resilient future. I am grateful for the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations' efforts to foster greater connectivity and support the advancement of interests that affect our countries and the world.
Chargé d'Affaires Xu said in her remarks that President Xi's congratulatory letter reflects China's goodwill for the stability, improvement and development of China-U.S. relations. The 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China has drawn a grand blueprint for the development of the Party and the country for a time to come, and provided greater stability and certainty for world peace and development from a Chinese perspective. As China-U.S. relations are at a critical juncture, we must bring the bilateral relations back to the right track in the spirit of “HOPE”, which is to be Hardworking, Optimistic, Persistent and Enterprising. We look forward to working with people of insight from various sectors in the U.S. to shape a more positive future for China-U.S. relations.
At the Gala Dinner, former U.S. Secretary of State Dr. Henry Kissinger, Trade Representative Katherine Tai, and President of the National Committee Stephen Orlins also delivered remarks. Mr. Evan Greenberg, Chairman of Chubb Limited and Chubb Group, was honored by the National Committee for his contributions to the development of China-U.S. relations.
