From Jan 27 through Jan 30, Chinese Embassy in the US and the Kennedy Center jointly held Chinese New Year Celebration to greet the Year of the Tiger, featuring the REACH Winter Lanterns and Chinese Culture week. The four-day event drew around 8,000 participants.
The stunning display of approximately 100 Winter Lanterns, made up of 10,000 colored LED lights and crafted by Chinese artisans, lit up the outdoor space of the Kennedy Center. The Embassy and the Center designed various interactive activities, including Choose a New Year’s Wish for 2022; Writing and sending letters to pandas Tai Shan, Bao Bao and Bei Bei, who are now in China; Getting New Year freebies such as zodiac stickers, tiger masks and more; Photo opportunities with tiger and panda characters; and Watching video wall projection of themed promotions of “Happy Chinese New Year” and “Beautiful China” as well as selected performance videos. The activities filled the Kennedy Center with rich festive atmosphere.
