On August 3, 2019, a seminar on scientific research management in Chinese universities was held at the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the U.S. The event was attended by over 50 representatives from the federal government, academic associations and societies, embassies of other countries, and universities and research institutes of the US and other countries, who interacted with Chinese scientific research management staff and diplomats of the Embassy.
DCM and Minister Li Kexin delivered a speech at the event. He said that over the past 40 years of reform and opening-up, China has kept expanding exchanges and cooperation with the world in various fields. As its international scientific and technological cooperation goes deeper, Chinese scientists have become an important force in the global scientific community, contributing more and more Chinese wisdom to human science. At present, the new technological revolution and non-traditional security issues have brought new uncertainties to the world, which represent a common challenge to all mankind that requires a global response. Only proceeding from the fundamental interests of the people of all countries in a long-term perspective can we achieve harmonious coexistence and mutual benefit. Science is borderless and the scientific spirit is open and inclusive. It is hoped that the attendees will work for greater friendship between people of various countries.
The guest speakers of the seminar were Professor Shaofeng Fan, Chief of Division for Overseas Projects, Office of Scientific Research, Peking University, and Dr. Hongyang Xu, Deputy Director of Division of International Cooperation, Institute of Science and Technology, Fudan University. They made detailed presentations about China's scientific research system, regulations and practices of scientific research management in their universities, scientific integrity, intellectual property rights protection and so on, before proceeding to a Q&A session. The event was lively and interactive.
