Visa for Hong Kong SAR of China

U.S. Citizen

1. U.S. citizen holding a U.S. passport may travel to HKSAR visa-free for a short visit or tourism and stay in HKSAR for up to 90 days.

2. U.S. citizen should obtain a visa if the intended stay in HKSAR is more than 90 days, or the purpose of visit is to work, study, establish or join in any business or to take up residence in the HKSAR before traveling to HKSAR.

3. As of December 10 2020, holders of U.S. diplomatic passports require a visa before visiting Hong Kong unless they are in direct transit and remain on the airside. Hong Kong SAR Visa applications shall be submitted to Chinese Embassy/ Consulate General based on your State of residence.

4. How to apply for a Visa for Hong Kong SAR of China:

A. With effect from 28 December 2021, the Hong Kong Immigration Department has implemented the “e-Visa” arrangement. An applicant for an entry visa/permit, extension of stay or change of status, etc can apply on the website of Hong Kong Immigration Department.

You may also submit your application in person to Chinese Embassy/ Consulate General based on your State of residence (Locate a Visa Office that serves your state); or mail your application directly to the Immigration Department of HKSAR Government.

B. Follow the guidelines for the Visa for Hong Kong SAR of China and prepare required supporting documents with your application.

C. Processing Time: 4 weeks or more.

D. Fees and payments: If your application needs to be referred to HKSAR Immigration Department for processing, you are required to pay a Communication Fee of $20 to the Embassy/Consulate General prior to submission of your application, in addition to the Visa for Hong Kong SAR of China fee which is charged once your visa is approved. Otherwise, you must pay directly to HKSAR Government as instructed.

Non-U.S. Citizen

1. Please check the visa requirements or visa-free arrangements for non-U.S. citizen by visiting the website of HKSAR Immigration Department.

2. Non-U.S. should obtain a visa if the purpose of visit is to work, study, establish or join in any business or to take up residence in the HKSAR before their traveling.

3. How to apply for a Visa for Hong Kong SAR of China:

A. You may submit your application in person to Chinese Embassy/ Consulate General based on your State of residence (Locate a Visa Office that serves your state); or mail your application directly to the Immigration Department of HKSAR Government.

B. Follow the guidelines for Visa for Hong Kong SAR of China and prepare required supporting documents with your application.

C. Processing Time: 4 weeks or more. (For applications not to be referred to HKSAR Immigration Department, normal Embassy/Consulate General processing times apply)

D. Fees and payments: If your application needs to be referred to HKSAR Immigration Department for processing, you are required to pay a Communication Fee of $20 to the Embassy/Consulate General prior to submission of your application, in addition to the Visa for Hong Kong SAR of China fee which is charged once the visa is approved. Otherwise, you must pay directly to HKSAR Government as instructed.

Visa for Macao SAR of China

U.S. Citizen

U.S. citizen holding a U.S. passport may travel to Macao SAR visa-free for a short visit or tourism.

Non-U.S. Citizen

1. Please check the visa requirements/visa-free arrangements/visa upon arrival for non-U.S. citizen by visiting the website of Macao SAR Public Security Police Force.

2. How to apply for a Visa for Macao SAR of China:

A. You may apply for a landing upon arrival in Macao SAR (some exclusions apply, click to check detailed info); or submit your application in person to Chinese Embassy/ Consulate General based on your State of residence (Locate a Visa Office that serves your state); or directly contact the Immigration service of Macao SAR Public Security Police Force.

B. Follow the guidelines for the Visa for Macao SAR of China and prepare required supporting documents with your application.

C. Processing Time: 2 weeks or more.

D. Fees and payments: If your application needs to be referred to Macao SAR Public Security Police Force for processing, you are required to pay a Communication Fee of $20 to the Embassy/Consulate General prior to submission of your application, in addition to the Visa for Macao SAR of China fee which is charged once your visa is approved. Otherwise, you must pay directly to Macao SAR Government as instructed.
